Best Place to Catch a Film in Ocean City, NJ

Ocean City has always been about family fun, and movie theaters have played a big part in that.

Over the years, the boardwalk has seen its share of theaters, each bringing its own flair to the island. From the grand Strand Theater to smaller spots like the Surf, these venues were the go-to places for catching the latest films.

The boardwalk has faced its share of challenges, including devastating fires. Even the so-called "fireproof" theaters were not immune and fell victim to these disasters. Despite these setbacks, the island’s love for movies endured.

Among the historic theaters is the Moorlyn Square Theatre. Originally opening as Moore's Bowling Casino in 1905, it was transformed into a 1,600-seat movie theater in 1922. After changing ownership several times, it was acquired by the Frank Theatres chain in 1989 and continued to show movies until its closure in 2018.

Today, Moorlyn Square Theatre has been beautifully refurbished and stands ready to welcome audiences of all ages. It’s a great place to keep the in-person movie theater experience alive while enjoying a blend of modern amenities and classic charm.
